I grew up in a city, but pretty much everyone I am related to is involved with agriculture in some way or another (from actual farmers to professors of some sort of agricultural field) so I always knew where my food came from. I mean, nine times out of ten, I met my burger before I ate it. It's made me a bit of an ass when it comes to buying food (I won't buy things I know are out of seasons or meat that I haven't hunted or visited the farm of, for example) but I've never had a problem connecting with the animals I eat. They have personalities and families and weird habits, just like everyone else. However, it wasn't until I started traveling more that I realized just how little connection most people have to not only their own food but the world around them in general. I think this picture gives a very clear message of that. It makes people who don't get the opportunity to know their food a window into life as another animal. I think it's really cool! ^_^
Also, I really liked the plain background. If it had been in a more natural setting, I think it would have detracted from the moment. The neutral colours really make the chick stand out.
